Biography
Lee Scherwitz C.M.
Lee Scherwitz is the Airport Director for the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport and holds a Michigan State Airport Managers License. He comes to us from the Alpena County Regional Airport in the northeast portion of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. He is a Certified Member of the American Association of Airport Executives, the American Association of Airport Executives Great Lakes Chapter and the Michigan Association of Airport Executives.
He is originally from Pearl River, New York from where he graduated and entered the United States Air Force in 1965 and retired in 1991. Lee then went back to school and graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1995 with a degree in Aviation Business Management. He is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. He is an Alumni Brother to his Aviation Fraternity, ALHA ETE RHO, SIGMA CHI CHAPTER. He served an Internship with the Airport Director Staff at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.
Some of his outstanding recognition's include, 1997 & 2006 Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International; 1997 Award of Excellence, Special Achievement in Concrete Pavement, from the Michigan Concrete Paving Association; 1996 Airport Sponsor Award, from the Michigan Department of Transportation, Bureau of Aeronautics; 1993 Academic Achievement Award, Eastern Michigan University, Department of Computer Science; 1992, Honor Student Award, Eastern Michigan University, College of Technology; 1983 United States Air Force in Europe (USAFE), Outstanding Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor - Manager of the Year Award.
Lee Scherwitz is a holder of a Federal Aviation Airframe and Powerplant Certificate since 1969. He taught for Pikes Peak Community College in their Aviation Management Program. He served his country during two wars and for 26 years. He has held many interesting and diversified positions with the Air Force, some of which are: Chief of Maintenance/Maintenance Superintendent; Maintenance Standardization Evaluator for Head Quarters United States Air Forces Europe Logistics Staff Assistance Team; Technical Assistance Field Advisor to The Egyptian Air Force, conducting transitional training from Russian aircraft to newly acquired American aircraft as part of the Camp David Accord for Egypt.
He is married to his wife of 39 years, "Sue", from Grosse Pointe, Michigan and they raised four outstanding children they are proud of.
